The hemp plant is one of the most versatile and environmentally friendly plants available to humans. Native to the Himalayas in China, it was found in the 5th century BCE, making it one of the oldest domesticated (purposefully) plants known.

Hemp is also mentioned in the book of Shu Ching, 2300 BC (Chinese Book of History) stating that it is used to make better bow cords and replaces the bamboo thread in armor. It soon became one of the main fibers used all over the world. Merchant ships used hemp to make sails and ropes, and spread the knowledge of this amazing plant widely.

Hemp In The Industry

Only now are we rediscovering its versatility. Hemp has over 20,000 uses – including biodiesel, paper, clothing, ropes, cosmetics, animal bedding, essential oils, hemp milk, textiles, and food products. Large companies such as BMW, Ford and Chrysler use it to make plastic panels and car dashboards.

It is also used in building materials because the hemp naturally “breathes”, does not stop condensation and prevents the growth of mold. They are also termite and rodent resistant. Hemp is an alternative to concrete. It is used in pipes and is at 1/3 of the production price – it is more flexible and resistant to cracking.

In the clothing industry, hemp is also a more profitable option. One hemp T-shirt requires 300 liters of water less and a cup and a half less pesticides to produce one T-shirt compared to one cotton T-shirt. As an alternative to paper, a hemp plant only takes 90 days to mature and will produce four times more useful fiber than growing wood of the same size in twenty years.

Hemp is referred to as “mop crops” because of its ability to remove contaminants such as excess phosphorus, waste water, and other undesirable chemicals from the water, while absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. The list of benefits is long, not only at an environmental level, but the profits from growing cannabis would be extremely beneficial as it is an excellent crop for rotation purposes.

Legislation in Poland allows the sale of hemp oils in accordance with the regulations. Hemp foods are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and form one of the most digestible oils for our body. It turns out that cannabis contains little or no tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the chemical found in marijuana that causes you to “get high”.

So many useful products from one plant that would help not only fighting farmers, but also a fighting planet. These wonderful useful plants that our planet has to offer are often referred to as “alternatives”. An alternative for what? The market is already there. All it takes is a product promotion!
